Safeway Freezer Storage Facilities

Front signThe economies of scale are never so apparent as in food service and agribusiness, where rail and truck transportation open up regional and national territories to ambitious growers and producers. Located in Vineland, southern New Jersey, Safeway Freezer Storage serves businesses around the corner and around the world.

Safeway’s Nearly 7 Million Cubic Feet of Freezer and Cooler Storage Is Really Big.

Our plant has 48 enclosed and refrigerated shipping/receiving bays. There are 6 million cubic feet of multi-temperature freezer space, plus 900,000 cubic feet of cooler space (+28-40º F). Space is 85% racked; 15% free-stacked. Dual rail sidings are capable of accepting 12 supercars.

The plant is served daily by Conrail for Norfolk Southern and CSX, by Safeway Logistics (our in-house licensed freight broker), and by Safeway Distributors (our onsite fleet of refrigerated trailers and tractors). Thermostatically controlled rooftop refrigeration units use non-polluting Freon. Inventory is checked 24/7 by a centralized monitoring system. Warehouse racks are inventoried with Acellos software.

Warehouse overview

Our facilities have a comprehensive HACCP plan in place to facilitate a successful food safety program. In addition to internal audits to ensure that food safety standards are being adhered to on a consistent basis, Safeway Fresh Foods has conducted third party audits on an annual basis. The audits not only focus on the review of HACCP documentation, but concentrate on inspection of storage, food production and processing units, assessment of equipment/utensil condition, water/sewage systems, garbage disposal, pest control and structural components (walls, floors, ceilings, lighting and ventilation).
